PRESENTS

Well, this is not a horror movie, but I thought with a title like "A Monster Calls," it ought to get a Bitenight treatment. Ultimately, it's quite a great film. Granted, it gets a bit sentimental at times and is a little longer than it needs to be, yet it does a nice job of dealing with a variety of threads that interweave and tie up at the end. The boy in the film does an excellent acting job, and the tree monster is an impressive creature. Hard not to think of the trees in Lord of the Rings, though. Overall, certainly worth a watch. You're more likely to cry than scream, but we all need some variety now and then.
